Hair Transplant

hair transplantHair transplant is a surgical technique that moves individual hair follicles from a part of the scalp called the “Donor Site” to bald or balding part of the body known as the “Recipient Site” It is primarily used to treat male pattern baldness. In this minimally invasive procedure, grafts containing hair follicles which are genetically resistant to balding are transplanted to the bald area. It can also be done to restore eyelashes, eyebrows, beard hair, chest hair and to fill in scars caused by accidents.

The main cause of baldness is heredity. It has been proved that Male Pattern or Androgenetic Alopecia is directly related to genetic factors especially male hormones. The hair in the bald area is sensitive to the male hormone testosterone which causes reduced growth and thinning of hair in these areas. Some men have baldness only in the front or at the vertex, while in others it is more severe. But, no matter how extensive the baldness, there is always a “Horseshoe” shaped area of permanent hair at the back and sides of the head. Scientists have found that these hair are genetically programmed to resist the effect of male hormones. Such hair when transplanted into areas of thinning or bald areas continue to survive and grow permanently. This forms the basis of hair transplantation.

hair transplantMicro follicular Hair Transplantation is the best treatment known for natural hair restoration in male pattern baldness. Does the hair fall again? New transplanted hair will start growing in about 12-16 weeks after the surgery. These new hairs will be permanent and lifelong. Original hair in the bald area may continue to fall. The procedure can be repeated after 6 months, if needed to achieve more density in the bald area. With more sittings the density of hair growth becomes better.
